The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) was enacted in 1984 to provide federal funding to assist state, local government agencies or private not-for-profit corporations registered in Florida to provide direct services to crime victims. The United States Department of Justice (USDOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), allocates funds to the State of Florida to support Florida's efforts to provide services to victims of crime. More detailed information about the program is available in the Victims of Crime Act Victim Assistance Program Final Rule. The Attorney General's Division of Victim Services and Criminal Justice Programs administers the VOCA Assistance grants.

The Florida Crime Stoppers Act

The Florida Crime Stoppers Act was passed by the Legislature in 1998. The Act establishes the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund by imposing as a court cost an additional surcharge of $20 on fines for crimal offenses to be collected by the clerks of the courts for all county and circuit courts. The Act serves to improve and support the Crime Stoppers members of the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers, Incorporated and their crime fighting programs within the units of a local government of the state. The Act provides for enhancing public awarenesss of crime prevention methods and to train the public in personal safety principles, especially for citizens who live in, work at, or frequent locations having high crime rates. The Florida Department of Legal Affairs will make grant funds available annually to Crime Stopper organizations to carry out the purpose of the Act. Florida Consortium of Urban League Affiliates

The Florida Consortium of Urban League Affiliates receives a state appropriation to develop and implement two proactive initiatives to address and impact crime in the black community. The programs operate in Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Saint Petersburg, Tallahassee, Tampa and West Palm Beach. The Black-on-Black Crime Prevention Program is a public awareness and education effort to motivate the black community to support, promote and participate in crime prevention programs and activities. The Youth Crime Prevention and Intervention Program targets specific proactive strategies and activities to address and impact the problem of juvenile crime and to foster collaboration and improve communication amoung various agencies serving youth.
